In the world of planning today, all the rage is Tactical Urbanism. And rightfully so. Anything that gets people more involved and active in improving their communities is a good thing. More than ever, it's great to see how people aren't waiting around for a big plan to make life better today. Today's photo is an example of one of the precursors to Tactical Urbanism. In Vancouver, WA, this redevelopment around a downtown park allocated cheap space at ground level for farmer's market stalls and operations. Even better, the sidewalk had electrical outlets installed at a frequent spacing so that trucks and carts could use them on market days, or other times. Simple, smart ideas to enliven public space and our streets.
