Monterey Square, Savannah, GA. The original plan of Savannah, designed by James Oglethorpe, was based on a series of wards with a public square in the center. 22 still remain, of the 24 that existed at one time. Monterey Square, like many of the squares, provides not just beauty, but a peaceful place to sit, walk the dog, or just enjoy on a walk through the city. It also is lined by none other than the Mercer-Williams house, and Temple Mickve Israel, the 3rd oldest Jewish congregation in the US.
